The Price is Right
“I’ll see your come from behind down 3 games to 1 and raise you a 3-1 victory in Game 7 of the ALCS cause I’m bringing my secret weapon, David Price.” ~Matt Garza, Tampa Bay Rays pitcher~
Disclaimer: Matt Garza did not actually say the above statement, but somehow I got the feeling it’s what he was thinking.
I was amazed last night. I definitely doubted…BIG TIME…after game 5 if the Rays would pull it out. And then after game 6, I was even more doubtful. We’d seen it before. The Sox come back from 3 games down to win the ALCS. It just seemed like there was no stopping that run away freight train. But, Matt Garza who wears a baseball cap with the names of his children written on the brim, said “not so fast…hit the breaks.” He pitched into the 8th inning when after being relieved the Rays paraded out their bullpen culminating in David Price striking out J.D. Drew with bases loaded and two outs to escape the inning with the 3-1 lead in tact. He looked fearless in the 9th inning even after walking Jason Bay, and when Jed Lowrie hit a grounder to second base, madness ensued.
You know I kidded my dad all season about his man-crush on Evan Longoria, but I have to confess I have a bit of a crush on Matt Garza after seeing him pitch only twice: game 3 and game 7.
Congratulations Tampa Bay Devil Rays. It’s amazing what can happen when you take the Devil out of it. 🙂
Thanks for making the World Series worth watching this year. Good luck against the Phillies.
