I get a lot of questions about how I developed my various sports affiliations because pretty much none of them match where I grew up (southwest Florida). In an effort to answer all of those questions, here’s how the craziness comes about:

  1. Crimson Tide: I graduated with both an undergraduate and a graduate degree in accounting from The University of Alabama (ROLL TIDE ROLL). Primarily, I am an Alabama football fan, but I still keep up with the baseball and men’s basketball teams with a little gymnastics thrown in there from time to time.
  2. Tar Heels: My mother was born and bred in North Carolina, and therefore, she raised me, as I like to say, right. I love everything there is to love about Tar Heel Men’s Basketball. In fact, I’ll typically fight you to the death if you offer up harsh criticisms towards my boys. (Can’t say I didn’t warn you) I also have a fondness for the UNC baseball team as well. I’m not much of a baseball fan in general, but I LOVE college baseball.
  3. Peyton Manning: Before Alabama was ever even on my radar, Peyton Manning was. I actually went to Alabama for the academics not the sports if you can believe that and didn’t know until I got there of the rivalry between Alabama and Tennessee. I was already a Peyton Manning fan at that point and my cheering for Tennessee graduated with him. My love for him did not.
  4. Colts: I became a Colts fan because they drafted Peyton Manning with the first pick in the 1998 NFL draft. Since then, I have learned everything there is to know about the Indianapolis Colts and have become a full fledged fan of the entire organization. The biggest question I get is if I will continue to be a Colts fan when Peyton retires. Answer: HECK YEAH!!
  5. Jeff Gordon: This is where my parents failed miserably. My entire family are Dale and Dale Jr. fans. Somehow I missed that day when this family tradition was passed down. I can tell you that my affection for one Mr. Gordon started because, well come on people, HE’S HOT! And through the years I’ve come to be a fan of more than just his looks. I will say, it was quite the feather in my cap when Dale Jr. joined Hendrick Motorsports. I do, however, despise all things that are Jimmie Johnson, Mark Martin, and Tony Stewart.

I think that’s all of them, but I’ll keep adding to the list as I think of ones that need explaining.

Drop me a line below if there’s a specific one you would like explained or one of the above you’d like explained more.
